Traveling to Milan: Your Questions Answered
Answers to common questions about Milan.

There are lots of things you've asked us about Milan. Here are three of your common questions answered.

Should I plan my trip in August?
Only visit Milan in August if you absolutely can’t avoid it. Stores and restaurants are closed as the Milanese head off for vacation. The mosquitoes and hot, muggy weather make this time of year undesirable. Try to go during the months of March, April, May, June, September and October.

Is the Bulgari Hotel good during the summer?
During summer the rooms with a view over the Botanical Gardens are especially tempting. However, the Milanese love to dine and drink late in the gardens of the hotel, so be prepared for a little background chatter. Oh, and keep your windows closed. Mosquitoes can ruin your stay.

How much should I tip?
At restaurants, a 15% service charge is almost always included in your bill. At fine restaurants, an additional 5% to 10% is never unappreciated. Leaving coins is almost considered insulting, so leave an appropriate amount or nothing at all. If the sommelier was particularly helpful in discovering the great wine that you’ll talk about at home, tip him or her directly.
