Wining, Dining and Great Design in the Basque Country. A trip to the Hotel at Marques de Riscal James Paxton
Less than one hour from the exquisitely designed Guggenheim Bilbao Museum in El Ciego, Spain lies another Frank Gehry masterpiece: the Hotel at Marques de Riscal. Located within the rolling hills of vineyards of the oldest winery in the Rioja region of the Basque Country, Gehry's deconstructivist design provides a marvelous contrast with hues of colored metal and curly titanium strip. These colors reflect the hues of the lush landscapes.
The complete edifice, which can easily be considered a sculpture, houses the hotel, an exhibition area, and a wine tasting room.
