Walk into your favorite boutique and its there. Visit your favorite spa and its there. Scented rooms put you in the best of moods and make you feel relaxed. Scented candles are an easy way to create that instant ambiance: the dancing flame, the subtle perfume —essential for every girl’s cherished space.
is one of the first companies that understood the importance of a scented room. The original store, at 34 Boulevard St Germain, opened in Paris back in 1961 as an outpost for three interior decorators. Inspired by the exotic scents of the Far East (and perhaps the Ivory Byzantine Diptyque at the Louvre?), two years later they began creating scented candles redolent with cinnamon (Cannelle), tea (The) and Hawthorne (Aubepine). The scents were uncomplicated and based on single fragrance notes. In 1968 they launched toilet waters and room sprays. The popularity of Diptyque’s delicate fresh scents led to a matching line of soaps, shampoos and body wash.
The elegant sensibility of Diptyque, in sleek, heat-resistant glass and a wide variety of scents, makes it a favorite with both genders. The quality of the paraffin makes for a slow burn that lasts up to 60 hours (that’s a lotta ambiance!).
If you aren’t visiting Paris anytime soon, you can still stock up on their scents; Diptyque’s popularity has spread worldwide; find them in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, London, Rome…
